- גְּרַב(cmp. גרף) 1) to scrape, v. next ws. 2) to rob, seize, levy. Sabb.148a זיל גַּרְבֵיה go and seize him (take his coat until he appears). Ib. לא בדינא גְרַבְתִּיךְ was I not right in summoning thee? Ḥag5b גַּרְבוּהוּ they (the royal officers) seized his property. Gitt.45a משום דלא לִיגַרְבוּוכ׳ in order that robbers should not be tempted to kidnap persons and then offer them for ransom. Ib. 46b גרבי להו seized them (for debts). Ithpe. אִיגְּרַב to be robbed. Y.B. Mets.IV, 9d אִיגַּרְבַת thou hast been robbed of one Denar.
